Lawmaker takes lead vs. kidney disease

May 3, 2008 - Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter is a strong advocate for her constituents and works tirelessly to serve the citizens of Orangeburg County. My life and that of my family has been enriched by her passion and commitment on behalf of people impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease.

As an Orangeburg native, kidney transplant recipient and member of the National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina board, I have attended legislative hearings, the Orangeburg Kidney Walk (of which she served as the honorary chairperson), as well as workshops for kidney patients with Rep. Cobb-Hunter. She listens to stories that illustrate the perspective of one who lives each day as a survivor. I believe understanding this struggle gives Rep. Cobb-Hunter a stronger perspective to address the needs of those in her district impacted by kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina named Rep. Cobb-Hunter its Legislator of the Year for her part in passing stronger resolutions in favor of battling kidney disease. Orangeburg County has one of the highest concentrations of people with kidney disease in the state. The mere fact that she fights so hard for those affected by kidney disease exemplifies her unwavering dedication to her constituents.

I know I can always call on Rep. Cobb-Hunter at any time to address issues about health care, economic development and any other areas of concern. I thank Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter for what she has done in the past and her continued efforts to help all the people in her district.
